Fresh from TED2009, Elizabeth Gilbert muses on the impossible things we expect from artists and geniuses — and shares the radical idea that, instead of the rare person “being” a genius, all of us “have” a genius. It’s a funny, personal and surprisingly moving talk. (Recorded February 2009 in Long Beach, California. Duration: 19:29.)

Taught high school history in Miami for 33 years and saw a lot of bright, insightful and talented teens and am sure some of them will do or produce some very smart stuff. But for the majority I can not imagine how they will even get a job to support themselves. The present education systems has everyone on the college track and in Miami less than 10% of most graduating seniors go to college, many in that category quit at 16 and have no marketable skills. Ain’t nary no geniesouses arount here.
Did you come up with any ideas of how to make education more successful and inspiring?
