What’s on in Tauranga and Mt Maunganui – December 2016

Thursday 1  December  6pm – PROTEST – Aotearoa with Standing Rock. On the 1st December 2016 at 6pm Aotearoa is standing with Standing Rock. People of all colours and creeds coming together to stand in solidarity with the Water Protectors at Standing Rock.
We will be holding a unity prayer which is open for all to join regardless of religious or non-religious affiliations. We would love as many nationalities as possible to be represented! Event will go ahead regardless of weather. Bring umbrellas in case of rain.

Operating every Thursday evening from the 6th of November through to the 26th of March, this event promises to offer the best street food the Bay has to offer. Saturday 3 December 11am until 12pm – PARADE – Trustpower Christmas Parade. Bring your family and friends to Downtown Tauranga to view the wonderful floats and entertainment whilst celebrating Christmas with the rest of the Tauranga community.
Stay afterwards and take the kids to the waterfront after the parade for fun and rides with The Little Entertainment Company. Venue: Parade Route: Starts 2nd Ave, down Devonport Rd, onto The Strand, finishing at Harrington St

Saturday 3 December 1pm-2.30pm – MUSIC – Kid friendly Kirtan in a Matua garden. Come sing Kirtan (the art of chanting your heart open) with Premratna (from Auckland) with her harmonium, guitar and Dhurva’s magical drum. This is a warm-hearted event for the whole family. Imagine playcentre…There will be some ‘stations of play’ set up for children who need to ‘come and go’ from the music. Drawing, dress-ups and garden play. Cost: Waged $15, Unwaged $10, Kids FREE. Men and Women of mixed ages come together to sing, have a cuppa and a little too much chat occasionally. The ‘leader’ is warm, fun, an accomplished musician and composer and a delight to be in the company of. Give it a go. Feel free to come for 5 minutes and if it’s not your cuppa tea, walk out the front door (no excuse needed). Cost: $10 / $8 student. Venue: Mauao Performing Arts Centre, Totara St, Mt Maunganui.

Thursday 8 December 9pm until 1am (every Thursday) – MUSIC – Open Mic Night at Mount Social Club. Bring your voice, instruments, or your ears to play, jam and listen. Venue: 305 Maunganui Road


Saturday 10 December 1pm until 8pm – EVENT – Tauranga’s Christmas in the Park. Tauranga’s Christmas in the Park is little big event’s annual community focused Christmas fundraising event! For a gold coin entry you will get to enjoy a pre-Christmas event filled with live music, performances, arts, craft and artisan food/drink. Our aim is to create a great opportunity for the community to come together before Christmas and enjoy a full day of entertainment. We want to encourage community spirit and ‘giving back’ so enable us to support local charities and communities group who are working with families and children. Six-year-old Susan Walker (Mara Wilson) is skeptical of the Christmas myth surrounding Santa Claus, a trait she perhaps learned from her mother, Dorey (Elizabeth Perkins). When tasked with hiring the Santa who will pose with kids at Macy’s, Dorey enlists a man with the curious name of Kris Kringle (Richard Attenborough) who claims to be Santa himself.
